Royal Gala

Royal Gala, the most common of the “Gala” apples, is a variety of cultivated apple (malus domestica). Relatively small, they are considered dessert apples and keep well. Comparatively firm and sweet, the skin is bright red and the flesh pale yellow. The skin is smooth and shiny and can appear slightly waxy if stored for a long time. The apples are small to medium-sized and therefore classified as small. They are round-conical and only vary very slightly in shape. “Gala” has many incarnations, distinguished essentially by their colour rather than the characteristics of the actual fruits. After harvesting, the apples can be stored until December. They are not known to be particularly sensitive to storage.
